APPRAISAL OF WORKPLACE ETHICS: SEXUAL HARASSMENT OF WOMEN AND THE WAY OUT

Abstract
Workplace ethics are moral principles and standards that an organization aims to uphold and live by in the quest to meet international best labour practice. The code of conduct established by the corporation typically defines and embodies ethical behavior at work. Sexual harassment is one of the main behaviors that are unethical in the workplace. Any inappropriate sexual behavior that makes the victim feel uneasy, afraid, or ashamed at work is considered sexual harassment. It has an implication of undermining job security and could leave victims emotionally and psychologically distraught. The causes and repercussions of workplace sexual harassment on victims in Nigeria are examined in this article. Doctrinal research approach was used in this article in analyzing the relevant legal provisions from primary and secondary sources as well as the opinions writers in the subject matter. This article revealed that the main causes of sexual harassment’s flourishing in Nigerian workplaces are a lack of legislation against it and insufficient organizational regulations. It concludes that specific legislation that criminalizes and forbids sexual harassment is needed. This article recommended that in order to effectively combat the threat of sexual harassment, laws, regulations, and programs against it be put into place right away.
